Born in 1980, Rodney Gordon grew up with his parents and four brothers in a three bedroom house in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. His father was a truck driver before taking a job as a new-car salesman, and his mother was a trained nurse working first in a hospital outpatients ward then in a home caring for the intellectually handicapped.

After three years of university he graduated a Bachelor of Information Systems with a minor in Philosophy. In '99 while outlining his debut novella Resident Stranger he resigned the need to explore the craft in closer detail and in greater depth. He re-enrolled, this time with an English/Cinema double-major, and in 2003 made the Dean's Honours Lists for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

In this same year Gordon was asked to write an article about cinema and censorship for the launch of Rubric Cube, an independent youth-arts zine and continues to submit articles to independent and established publications. Gordon currently lives in Melbourne, is completing Honors in English and Cinema at LaTrobe University and makes inquiries regarding the further publication of his work.
