During autum of 2003 Gordon began work on his third short story, True confessions of Amy. G. Dala. Set in St Kilda during a muggy summer's evening, an unnamed male narrator oscillates between love and hate while dealing with Amy's confessions and consequent breakdown.
"We still have our alienated male lead," he says, "but the characters are more developed and the tension is neater. The suspence comes from what is being withheld. Unlike Catalepsy or MetroVertigo this story could be adapted as a play or theatre piece without alienating the audience too much."
The themes of the piece are obvious. "It's about betrayal. Of various kinds." But the imagery and precision of description are the most obvious improvements from his earlier writing.
"It's possible that Amy will appear in other stories. I had an outline for a novella centered around her interactions with another male character which is where the 'scene' of True confessions came from. Perhaps that story will unfold through a series of shorter stories, and might eventually tie together as a complete piece. Let's hope it reaches that stage."
